2017 Trip East to see the Colors travel blog

We are on our way home so this is the last long stop. We stayed here for several days in 2014 on our trip to the Outer Banks, NC. In 2014 we stayed at a KOA for several nights and saw the town. Tom found out that Fort Chaffee had an RV park so we were there 3 nights. Fort Chaffee is where my dad was stationed when I was 5 years old. It is now run by the Arkansas National Guard as a maneuver training center. The buildings are all the old WWII type with some refurbishing.

The RV park was good - nice views It was supposed to be cool but when we arrived it was 87 degrees. And there was another new experience - ladybugs were swarming!! I had to Google it to see what the deal was. They were everywhere, like gnats. Fort Chaffee has a lot of weapons ranges and on our 1st full day Tom was the first to hear rifle fire. A couple hours later we were hearing machine gun fire and that was followed by mortar. Apparently everyone's aim was good because nothing whizzed by us.

We are headed to Oklahoma City to stay 1 night at Tinker Air Force Base.
