Port Elizabeth

Port Elizabeth

Port Elizabeth

Left Addo for short drive to Port Elizabeth. Mixed city of industrial/port, historical and beautiful beaches. A lot of old colonial architecture. Visited a historical home, very well preserved with original furniture and homewares. Wandered a little... still a few hours to kill before flight to Johannesburg so found a lovely beachside restaurant to while away the time and catch up on internet use. Good food, drinks, prices, service and view. Hit the jackpot...Cant ask for more than that.

Off to the airport now. Returned the rental car after doing 1300 kms. Our road trip is officially finished.

Arrived Johannesburg 8.30pm and got picked up to be taken to our hotel, the Safari Club. After driving via the freeway and then into an industrial area we weren't sure if we chosen the right hotel! Dodgy area! But the place is like a little oasis in the middle. I don't think it's meant for a long stay holiday. The owner is very canny I think..... most of his guests are overnighters waiting to be collected for their safaris, as this is on the main route from Johannesburg to Kruger. As most people wouldn't want/need to take all their luggage to Kruger, he offers a luggage minding service while your away and this ensures you will return for another overnight stay. Win/win for all.

Spent a half hour at the bar chatting to Alister (owner) before retiring to our room. Most lengthy conversations with safricans eventually turn to politics and history so we're learning lots about a very fascinating country.
