World of Wearab;e Art Bra

WOW #2

September 17, 2017

Sunny with some clouds but by the time we left Blenheim it had started to rain. By the time we got to Havelock it was pouring. Ordered two “long blacks” which are very small black coffees. Coffee is good but not inexpensive by US standards, usually about $10 for two.

Stopped in Nelson to see the art deco cathedral and walk the town. Was really raining so we didn’t dawdle. Outside of town is the World of Wearable Art and Classic Car Museum which is not to be missed. Every Septemeber and October the WOW Awards Show takes place in Wellington drawin g over 50,000 people from around the world. The show celebrates designers in several categories from around the world. The garments are modeled by as many as 350 cast. The museum has about 120 of the garments and provides a movie of highlights of the Award Ceremony. Was fascinating!! Then moved to the classic cars from the past 100 years which also was very interesting. The most amazing was a 20014 MB Maybach that was almost as long as our rig, had reclining rear seats with 100 different oieces of wood in the interior. Truly a modern luxury car!

Still raining we drove along the coast (a detour from SR 6) to Mapua to visit the Smokehouse, where you can get wood smoked fish and pate to go (we got some smoked mussel pate)No place to sit down and it was raining so we went the Golden Bear Brewery and had not very good Mexican food. I had the Fat Toad IPA which was quite good but only available at the brewery. Also learned the Lagunitas is now owned 100% by Heineken (not 50%) and DB Breweries a sub of Heineken is importing Lagunitas into NZ. Beer is delivered to NZ within 6 weeks which is faster than the product is delivered in US markets!

We opted not to camp on the beach at Kaiteriteri where we can get the water shuttle to Abel Tasman. With the rain we stopped at the Top 10 in Motueka which has a lounge where we can be comfortable out of the rig. Have to charge a lot of things and hope that the internet will allow me to upload some pictures for the blog. Once behind, very tough for me to catch up. We are playing it by ear tomorrow. Will not be fun hiking Abel Tasman in the rain. May need to turn south and go half way to Hamner Springs.

Not sure what we will have for dinner as lunch was so late. May snack on pate etc.
