2017 Coastal and Murray River Trek travel blog

Wednesday 6 September 2017

After a great week in Canberra, it is time to bid farewell and return to Bowral.

Let the early morning rush hour go, and then set off. First stop was at Fyshwick to pick up some more stainless thimbles from Speciality Fastners. Canberra sure is a big place and only realize how big when you drive from one end to the other!

Needless to say, it was a cold and windy start again. Watched the outside temp as we travelled and it only varied from 6d to 8d! Our next stop was Goulburn, the oldest inland town in Australia with a population of 24,000. Had been recommended to visit the Paragon Cafe, which we easily found and enjoyed a step back in time where you can eat in booths, with old fashion decor.

Had a quick walk around the Main Street, and by that we mean, it was a very quick walk! Even the locals had beanies under their hoodies!! In better conditions, it would be a lovely place to explore with the old buildings and beautiful churches which we enjoyed looking at from the car.

After a quick trip into Mittagong and a fuel stop, we arrived at Peter & Pat's for a late lunch, and a cup of tea around the fire! Heaven!

A leisurely afternoon of chatting followed by a delicious dinner. It is back to reality now after 10 days of being utterly spoilt by relatives and friends hospitality.

John and Mavis will join us tomorrow morning from Sydney. Their flight from New Zealand was delayed, so it was late when they arrived back in Australia, and they decided to spend the night with Randal & Annette in Maroubra.

It is still very cold here and the wind is still gusty. The wind gusts around here last night were 83km per hr which cost them a loss of power for several hours. Hopefully tonight will be a bit calmer.
