Bill and Mary Ann's truck camper retirement travel blog

We followed the Trinity river most of the way along 299 past old mining town and lots of forests. We saw a sign for historic French Gulch so we went to look at it. It was a major gold mining camp in the 1860s. There was an old saloon/hotel still operating so we went in for a beer. The bar had been imported from England and brought around Cape Horn in the 1860s so that was pretty cool. Back on the road, the temp hit 106 in Redding so we headed for Lassen Volcanic park since the elevation was between 3-8000 feet depending on where in the park you were. We stopped at the first campground at Manazita lake. Crowded but much cooler! You could still see snow on Lassen peak. We'll drive through the park tomorrow.
