The Americas travel blog

We have a flight at 4.45 to La Paz today. Not up too early and a leisurely 1.5km walk into Antigua. We eat breakfast at the Dona Luisa Xicotencatl Restaurant that we tried to get into yesterday but it was filled with locals having Sunday brunch. We have a last minute wander through some streets we missed and are picked up for our transfer to the airport in Guatemala City at 11.30. It's an early pick up but we are not sure if there will be traffic delays so better to be early than late. We arrive at the airport at 12.15, no traffic at all, just our luck! Now we have a long time to wait. We have a coffee and some of the delicious banana bread from Dona Luisa and at 2pm we can check our bags. The flight leaves on time and we have exit row seats, nice and roomy. We fly 3 hours to Bogota and then have only an hour transit so we had to hot foot it to the next flight. It was then a 3.15 hour flight to La Paz and we arrive at 2-45 am. Great!!! It is a quick process through immigration and customs and we are met by William. We get to our Hotel at around 4 am. Straight to bed of course. Really buggered but no signs of altitude problems yet!
