We decided to take a drive around the lake today in the afternoon. As we drove out we stopped at a cheese shop and got some great horseradish spread. Then as we drove into Mayville we saw the Chautauqua Belle loading up and decided to take the lake cruise. This is a steam powered paddle wheeler - one of 5 still operating in the US, the narrative was good and we went past the Chautauqua Institute - established in the mid 1800's. It is a place for mansions by the rich, and we saw several from the lake. Also saw Boy Scouts paddle boarding on the lake - the Baptists and Methodists, Boy Scouts, Boys Club, etc all have camps along this lake. It is the 2nd highest lake in the US at 1300'. Afterwards we stopped at Barney's for ice cream - the "small" cup was 2 big scoops and it was Hershey brand and very good. We then drove around the rest of the lake and saw many farm stands of produce. If we are here again Ray could play golf at many courses along the lake and there was Midway Park with an old carousel that would have been great to see but was not operating during the week
