|After another day of rest we drove over to Dana Point to spend a day and a night with Don's half brother and sister, Pete and Elizabeth. It had been many years since we had seen them, so we were excited to make this trip. Seeing them was actually another reason why we had camped in California in the first place. We arrived a little after 1:00 and spent the next 5 or 6 hours out on the terrace admiring the view and trying to get caught up on each other's lives. I'd say we made a pretty fair start, and in the process put away a goodly amount of beer and wine and bread and cheese.
A bit later we met one of the kids and his family for a great dinner at a restaurant on the ocean front. I could have spent more time just walking the shore and watching the waves, but by this time it was dark and we were all tired, so we went back to the house. Elizabeth and Paul drove back to their place in another town and the 4 of us settled in for the night. After more talk, coffee and looking at some pictures. I am so happy to have these folks as family! Even though we had not seen them in many years, it felt just like we had been together all along. What great people!
When they invited us to spend the night, Pete and Melissa had promised us a room with an ocean view, and sure enough, that is just what we had. After a good night's sleep, we woke to our ocean view. I had also heard seals barking in the early morning hours. It was wonderful!
We were sad to say goodbye, and promised not to wait so long before seeing them again. I hope we keep this promise!
