Pier in the harbor of Montevideo

A brief stop in Uruguay

Right before the Thunderstorm Poured on us

We were supposed to take the excursion called City Drie, Soccer Museum & Legislative Palace. - 9am to 1pm.- but since the Crown Princess had their delay a whole day coming in to Buenos Aires, it means they lost their berth and tender times in both Montevideo and Stanley, Falkland Islands. The ship parked in the harbor of Montevideo 15 miles out all day, then when the Celebrity Infinity left the pier at 7:30pm, our ship docked for a brief three hour stay. It took long lines to get 3,000 people off the ship and by the time we were off, no shops were open AND about 5 minutes of walking later, we were totally engulfed in a huge thunderstorm. Sheets of rain pelting everyone - totally drenched with a few minutes, very dark because of the clouds plus it was now night, and minimal street lights. Several thousand passengers are huddled under any awnings or doorways they can find along the empty streets. Businesses have closed for the day and just a few cabs were available. So folks turned around and lined up in the sheets of rain to get back through security on the ship. The ship walkway was slippery metal and people with mobility problems were falling so they had to go really slow in getting folks back onboard. They handed out pool towels to folks as they dripped in. Needless to say it was not the full day in beautiful Montevideo, Uruguay 𯇺𯇾 that we had hoped for, but it was a unique experience! Since they also lost their position at Stanley, Falkland Islands, the ship wont even go by there this time. LOTS of upset people about that one!!! We are fortunate in that Terry was able to do Stanley on the way down (I had the flu then). So we have some pictures from there. Hope all is well with all of you. Roxa and Terry
