Tom and Pam on a California tour Fall 2016 travel blog

Aunt Jamsie, Tom and Pam

The tri-tip dinner crowd

It is a long trip from Quartz Hill, CA to Chico, CA. Tom drove the whole way – 7 hours – with a little rain around Stockton but not too much traffic. Our lack of timely planning meant that our trip to northern California would not include a visit with Lori and Kevin (sister #6 and her husband) because they were off on a properly planned Rolls Royce trip to Paso Robles. So we stayed at the Almond Tree RV Park in Chico, near the homes of two of the cousins Doran and Aunt Jamsie – the last of Tom’s mother’s siblings.

Jamsie, 80 years old, has no children so Lori and the Dorans generously help her with some chores and appointments. Plans for lunch with Jamsie went awry so we went back at dinner, which we ate at a great Italian restaurant. The food was great and we got a photo or two. Jamsie is a master of the family history so there was plenty of reminiscing.

The next day included some “sightseeing”, laundry and housekeeping. The real treat was a gathering at Mike Doran’s home for dinner. Almost all the Dorans were there for a great tri-tip dinner. We picked Jamsie up to attend this family celebration - Everyone agreed that tri-tip was the most tender they have ever had courtesy of master chef Mike. Goodbyes could not be said until there were photos.

You may be wondering about Rio, the cat. He is with us and was thrilled to have a whole day in the car and then 3 nights in one place – NOT!!

We are off to the coast and the redwoods from Chico.
