On the Road with Tom and Gloria travel blog

Gwen and Dale chose to celebrate their anniversary by picking up sister, Kathy, and going to brunch at Mimi's Cafe. The food was delicious ( especially the carrot, raisen, walnut muffin!) but the waiter was sub par.

After brunch we drove to Marble Falls to see Granite Mountain. The mountain is (was) an 866 feet dome of solid pink granite . It covers 180 acres making it the largest quarry of it's kind in the U.S. In the 1800's when the governor of Texas refused to use non native limestone to build the state capitol a deal was reached with the owners of the quarry. A special rail track was built to haul the granite to the rail line in Burnet and in return the owners of the quarry donated the granite to build the capitol building.

We stopped in the downtown area and visited four boutique shops. Beautiful stuff but who needs anything anymore?

This evening we uncorked a nice bottle of wine , clinked glasses, and I can't think of a better way to end the day.
