Well, we've arrived and checked into our hotel, and very posh it is too: the Sabah Oriental hotel we'll be staying here again after summiting mount Kinabalu.
Has been a long time travelling with a 13hour flight from the UK to Kuala Lumpur and then a 2 hour flight here to Kota Kinabalu. Due to overcrowding in the skies above Europe we were delayed by an hour meaning we missed the connection in Kuala Lumpur. Thankfully we were put on a later flight leaving us 3 hours to kill in the airport - time doesn't fly when you're waiting in the airport with no coffee shops!
To carry on the flora theme from the introduction there is a native fruit you can get here called the Durian and apparently it has quite a pervasive odour. So much so that there are signs at the airport, repeatedly in the lifts here in the hotel saying that they are forbidden.
It's time for our initial briefing, and the group (like the other ones) seems good and we should get on well.
I will check in later in the week as we are trekking in the Crocker Mountains national park for the next few days.
