Welcome to Maine

Drive thru New Hampshire

Our plan was to drive to Bar Harbor today but plans change. We decided we would drive to Palmyra Maine and spend the night at Palmyra Golf Club and Campground. That only leaves us with 71 miles tomorrow to reach Bar Harbor.

Our drive from Woodstock New Hampshire was very nice up thru the White Mountains. The road looked to be a challenge on the map, it is Route 112 or also called Kancamagus Highway. To our surprise it was a great 2 lane road with only one switch back that wasn’t bad at all. There was very little traffic and had some great views of the mountains. We arrived at the end of the Kancamagus Highway in Conway and continued on rte. 302 to Interstate 95. The drive was about 190 miles and we arrived at Palmyra around 3 pm, great time to get off the road. Wish I had my golf clubs, it looks to be a nice course. In the hunt for a set of clubs for Candy so when we go out west for the winter we can golf together. She use to golf years ago and now thinks she would like to get back into it.

If anyone saw the movie Gettysburg or is a history buff, this is where Joshua Chamberlain is from. He led the 20th Maine during the civil war and made famous defending “Little Round Top” during the battle of Gettysburg. He was born in Brewer Main and was a professor at Bowden College here in Maine.

We are going to set back and make our plans for tomorrow and the next few days in Bar Harbor. She found a Walmart close, so away she has gone, this gives each of us some alone time.
