Today we headed up the nearby Niederhorn Mountain(1,950m). There was first a short but steep funicular from Beatenbuct to Beatenberg. From Beatenberg there was a modern three car cable car to the summit. After admiring the views from the top we headed out along the ridge to Burgfeldstand (2,063m). The ridge walk gave us views down into the somewhat hidden Justistal valley with a window col at the end. We had intended to go on to Gemmenalphorn(2061m) to then take the path to Vorsass but the path was becoming extremely difficult and beyond our capabilities as hikers. We decided to take an informal but reasonable path down into the valley below and join the path to Vorsass. After joining the official path to Vorsass we had no problems with the trail. However, the weather was coming and it started to rain with the occasional rumble of thunder. We also had to go around a herd of cows being driven up the mountains with one looking to take a particular interest in Daisy. We arrived safely at Vorsass and took the cable and then funicular back down to Beatenbuct.
