Bob and Rita Washington Trip 2016 travel blog

WE MADE IT!! We got to Washington DC yesterday and are staying at Cherry Hill RV park. We got here mid afternoon and got set up. Personnel at the park gave us an hour of instruction on how to navigate around Washington. Afterwards our eyes looked glazed over and we left with a METRO card, a handful of brochures and a headache!!!

Nonetheless we struck out on Tuesday morning determined to conquer METRO, the subway, and any other form of transportation we could use. All of it worked great but really it's all about walking, walking, walking!! I had my first ride in a subway. At first I felt a little anxious when we went underground and asked, "how long are we underground"?. Soon I adjusted and knew this was the best way to navigate this great city.

Anne and I parted ways with Bob and Mike once we got off the subway. We headed to the Museum of American History and the guys, you probably guessed it, went to the Air and Space Museum. After several hours Anne and I had viewed all the First Lady gowns and all the history that went with it. Then we toured the President's history. We also went through the history of transportation and visited the history of food featuring Julia Child. Ironically they had a Rival crockpot on display that was just like one I have at home!! Boy that puts everything in perspective!!

Met up with the guys and they had barely touched the surface of all that was in their museum!! Bob and I left a little earlier to have dinner with Bob's cousin Jeri and her husband Al who live near Washington. Had a great evening catching up. Headed back to RV park and fell asleep quickly even though the park is near one of the major freeways and could hear traffic all night long!! But after a long day of sight seeing and walking, the traffic could be coming through our kitchen and we would not have noticed!!!

Will post photos later.
