Fried Chicken and Waffles at The Early Bird Diner

We got settled in to James Island County Park in Charleston late yesterday afternoon. The park is heavily wooded with a large lake. There are other small lakes throughout the park. The weather was mild as we sat outside to watch the sunset. Suddenly there was a loud chorus of geese and frogs that lasted well into the night. I thought I would never sleep with that noise but not to worry; with all the shenanigans from the night before with windows leaking and wet bedding (not to be confused with bed wetting) behind us, I fell into a deep slumber!!

We headed out this morning around 8:00 am in search of a diner that was featured on dives, drive-ins and diners. We found it and Anne and I decided on the fried chicken and waffles. Bob had the eggs benedict on corn pancakes. Mike had a traditional style breakfast. We ate in style and we could see how this diner made the list!!

After breakfast we headed into Charleston. We decided on a horse carriage tour of the historic section of Charleston. We passed historic homes that were built pre-civil war and had a view of Cooper River and Fort Sumter. Afterward we toured one of the homes, Edmondson-Alston House that was owned by only 2 families since it was built.

We ended our sightseeing by driving to the end of the island to see the Atlantic Ocean. By this time the rain had started so we had to find ocean access quickly and walked out to the pier with umbrellas, had a quick look, and got back in the car. So now I've seen the Atlantic Ocean!!!
