Friday May 20

After breakfast and time to tidy up we were on our way by car to Uppsala. Our route passed through Jonkoping and the eastern shore of Lake Vattern on highway E4, arriving approximately 5 hours later at Uppsala, north of Stockholm. We checked into our lodging for the night -- a hostel-type facility near the Agricultural University. The room was small but very tidy with everything one needed for the night. We then drove into the city and walked around the University Botanic Gardens and across the road to Uppsala Castle. Relocating the car to the centre of the city, we walked around the older part of town before choosing a restaurant (Rififi’s) where we enjoyed a pizza and a beer.

Later en-route back to our hotel, Lars took us on a drive around the campus of the Agricultural College reminiscing about the time when he was a student there! The college has a fairly large campus and new buildings have sprung up since Lar’s student days.

Back at the hostel, Lars and Heather spent some time looking through various photos and the year book that Lars had brought with him revisiting their time together in the early 1970’s at International House on the University of Guelph campus in Canada.
