Sundays are always a good day to visit big towns so we headed to Alicante. We found a car park near the port and then walked along sea front enjoying the warm sunshine. When we started our walk there was very few people around but that quickly changed as it was a lovely day and the locals were out in force.

Dominating the town on a bare rocky hill was the usual castle-Castillo de Santa Bárbara.

After our long walk along the sea front we wandered into the old town where a possession to welcome spring was taking place. There were people in traditional dress, local dignitaries, brass bands and the carrying of the statue of a saint (unknown) by 30 men very carefully through the street from the town hall to the church. It was fascinating to watch.
