The Capper Nomads Europe Adventure travel blog

We drove into the hills once again this time to the small village of Cami de la Cartoixa. Just outside the village was the ruined Cartoixa d’Scala Dei (Carthusian monastery of Scala Dei), the first of the Carthusian order’s monasteries in the Iberian peninsula founded in 1194. This was the start of our walk. Our trail took us above the old monastery onto a path that used to be used by the Carthusian monks which ran below the escarpment of the Serra de Montsant. As well as the impressive escarpment there was stunning views across the surrounding area.
