2016 Westward HO travel blog

Finally we got on the road for our trip to the west. After the bad weather we had in January and the illness we both had it feels good to get moving. Our trip will take us down US 24 to Ft. Wayne Indiana to I-69 south thru Indianapolis to I-70 and west. Our first stop will be in Terre Haute Indiana for the first night of our trip. Could not ask for better weather to drive in other then the wind we had to drive straight into all day. We stayed in the KOA Terra Haute for the night. KOA’s are a little pricey but there are not a lot of campgrounds open in the part of the country in the winter so you take what you can get.

Terre Haute has a Federal Correctional Complex. It is a 2 part facility, medium security and high security area. Timothy McVeigh, the Oklahoma City bomber was executed there. At present time it houses Dzhokhar Tsamaev, The Boston Marathon bomber. If you have friends or family there let me know and we will visit them.

Burl Ives and Jerry Van Dyke were born in Terre Haute. Terre Haute has 4 Metal of Honor recipients’.
