Mapua Ferry to Rabbit Island

Tasman Bay

Yesterday (Sun 12/13) we drove from Blenheim to Picton then Picton to Tasman - 5 hour total driving. We arrived at our little studio around 3:30. If you are interested in seeing this lovely little studio apartment Google Tasmangreen Studio. It is just as nice in real life as the pictures were online. It is a single unit attached to a house on this very quiet country road. The owners are so nice and very ready to do anything to make our stay a nice one. It is quiet at night, and about 300 meters to the Great Tasman Taste Trail (bikes and walkers) and right outside the door to the right begins a 7.5k bike/walk path through vineyards, apple orchards, and sheep pastures. It is such a great place to be outdoors and so tranquil. Five miles away is the bustling little community of Moteuka - gateway to the Abel Tasman National Park. It is a ''happening' place with numerous backpacker lodges, two big grocery stores, KFC, McDonalds, the iSite travel center, and lots of shops and banks along Main Street. Today (Monday 12/14) we drove in to Moteuka and Seth went to the iSite center and made several reservations/bookings. Tomorrow morning he goes Tandem SkyDiving from 16,500 feet up - one of the highest altitude dives in the South Island. He will be harnessed with a seasoned professional and he's really excited. The day after, he heads out for three days (two nights) hiking the Abel Tassman Coastal trail. After walking about 17k the first day, he hooks up with a floating backpacker lodge that will provide him supper, a floating dorm, and breakfast the next morning. Then he walks about another 17K the second day and camps at a Onetahuti Bay campsite where he has reservations. The third day he hikes about 14K and we meet him at Totaranui - a place where cars can meet up with hikers....a gravel road for about 12K and 20k paved. While he is doing his hiking Terry and I will do some day walks -- always ending back here at our lovely little studio ---no camping for me.

Steps Sunday 11,860. Monday 14,660. We coudn't be more pleased with this area and this studio- would highly recommend it to those of you who are thinking of a trip to this area.
