Our 2015 Fall Trip travel blog

We left Illinois this morning around 7:40 and it was 57 degrees, traveled up I24 to Highway 155 to I40 staying on I40 the rest of the way until coming into Sevierville, TN. We had not planned on going to Pigeon Forge this year, however we like it so much we decided last week to come here on our way back to GA.

Well the trip today was good until about 11:30 we ran into traffic and it was slow going for about an hour as their was a semi upside down and had jackknifed in the ditch, then around 1:30 we stopped again hit traffic, it was slower this time so much so that Buddy and I at different times were able to go back to the trailer and use the bathroom since we were stopped, this lasted until around 3:15, we found out it was a semi and RV wreck, we saw a wrecker in front of us pulling an RV but never seen the damage so not sure how bad it was. The rain hit around 4:00 and then because the weather was so bad it got dark around 5:00 with rain, traffic and at times fog, it was very stressful. We got into Sevierville made our turn off I40 and it was the wrong turn so I put the campground in the GPS and it took us on a backroad that we should not have been on, it was curvy and narrow for 5-7 miles and remember it's dark so no fun, finally we hit a main road and end up at King's Holly Haven RV Park around 7:30 and yep it is still raining so we have to get in our spot (thankfully a pull thru) and set up in the rain, the good thing was that it was not freezing cold. I would say it was up there as one of our worst travel days, we traveled 421 miles and were on the road for 13 hours. We stopped for fuel a couple times once in Paducah, KY paying $2.29 (no mileage check) and then in Baxter, TN paying $2.19 getting 7.6 mpg.
