We woke up to beautiful warm sunshine. You could tell we were further south. We decided in the morning to enjoy a walk in the sunshine along the river to the local village of Balbigny (about 2.5km). It was a lovely walk and of course when we got to the village we had to find the local boulangerie patisserie (the village had three) for lovely French bread and a little treat before heading back to the campground.

After lunch we headed out to explore the Loire north of the campground. Our map indicated a chateau and the “Gorges de la Loire”. Little did we know but we were in for a treat. The quiet country road took us both alongside the Loire and also above it with some wonderful views. We stopped at the Chateau de la Roche, bang on the river, and although the chateau was closed we found a lovely walk alongside the Loire.

After our walk we continued along the river road again with great views to the small village of St Maurice-sur-Loire before heading back to base.

A lovely first day.
