Saturday did not get off to the best of starts as we headed off to visit Toni Hewitt aboard her river boat "Olive". We departed the hotel late, as we headed for coffee and cake at a cafe across the road from the station. We then discovered that the ircle and District lines were closed for scheduled maintenance, requiring us to take the Piccadilly line to Hammersmith and change for Ladbroke Grove. On exiting the station, we took the long route to Mitre Bridge where the boat was moored, arriving at 1030hrs - 30 mins late.
We remained with Toni for an hour checking out the boat before returning to our hotel via Hammersmith again. We arrived back at 1315hrs in time for me to pick up the laundry; in the meantime, the girls returned to the hotel.
After a brief rest, we took the underground to Westminster, via Green Park to catch the Ferry to Greenwich at 1430hrs. The hour long trip was interesting as was the guides narrative. On arrival at Greenwich we walked directly to the observatory to visit and for Jan to straddle the Meridien Line.
On our return to visit the Cutty Sark, we detoured via the market and in doing so, missed the final entry time to the Sark and our ferry back to Westminster. As a filler we retired to the Capt Hardy pub for a wine to await the next ferry which we also missed.
We finally made the ferry and cut our return trip short at St Catherine's Pier, alongside London Bridge to allow for dinner in the area of Butler's Wharf where we ate last night. Kaye's choice of the French Restaurant was not realised as they were fully booked. We continued our search of the Southbank and finally settled on Jamie's Italian. Jan and I settled for the lamb shank and Kaye the calf fry + the Montepaluciano; we shared a lemon merange cheesecake for sweets. Overall another good dining experience.
After dinner we returned to the hotel via Castle Hill and Green Park arriving back at 2030hrs. The girls packed for a relatively early start as we prepared for France and Jan to return home.
