Doug's RFTW 2015 travel blog

We were up early on Friday, leaving Gallup at 6am. We arrived at the cycle shop about 820am where they diagnosed the problem as a major transmission problem. This transmission had only about 2000 miles since being totally rebuilt in Tacoma, WA. Knowing that there were NO tranny parts available in the USA, Thunderbird Harley Davidson in Albuquerque pulled a similar model bike off the showroom floor and yanked the transmission out of it for Leroy's bike. It was ready to go by 3pm on Saturday. So we loaded it up and headed out. Before leaving the area Leroy wanted to stop for dinner at Tomasita's Mexican Restaurant in Santa Fe to celebrate my birthday. The food was really good and they brought us flan for birthday dessert. Leaving the restaurant we stopped in front of city hall to see "Big Leroy". This was a bigger-than-life bronze statue honoring a Santa Fe native son, Leroy Petry. Then back on the road to Kansas arriving at the armory in Goodland about 4am. We caught a few winks in the truck before rejoining the run riders for breakfast. Everyone was super happy to see that Leroy was back. What a caring family these folks are.

I will load some photos here tomorrow. Too tired to work on this any more tonight.
