A nice leisurely start to a wet and overcast morning. The weather forecasts have been very accurate, and the predicted rain during the night duly arrived.
Our first stop for the day was at the harbour shops for the men to check out some rain jackets they'd seen previously. The shop assistant was very helpful, and darted between their two shops getting the right sizes, and we eventually left with two jackets.
Had thought about heading north to Manganui, but changed our minds and headed south to see something different. Made a stop at Opua, a small harbour where the vehicle ferry from Russell operates every half hour. A short break for a coffee and we headed further south to the Helena Bay Gallery and Cafe. Lots to see in the Gallery, and as this was the last place for lunch before Russell, an hour's drive away, we decided to stay for lunch, and weren't disappointed.
The drive back to Russell was very pretty and probably one of the windiest roads we have travelled in New Zealand, and that is saying something!. Enjoyed a quick walk around Russell which was a very quiet place today compared with our previous visit earlier in the week. Perhaps the showery weather had something to do with it.
Caught the vehicle ferry back to Opua and home to a cup of tea and the apple strudel cake we bought at the Gallery Cafe.
Don, Mavis and Pam had a last visit to Paihia shops while John minded the house and read his book.
Cleaning up and packing to do tonight ready for our drive to Auckland in the morning.
How fast can 16 days go? Lots of kms covered, lots of highlights and plenty of laughs had by all.
