We're not quite sure how many years in a row we've been going to Lake O'Hara in the winter - somewhere between 15 and 20. Out of all of those years, this was one of the best weekends of ski touring we've ever had! Two days of sunshine and blue sky and two long, spectacular ski tours. Low avalanche danger meant we could go places that are normally not accessible and on the first day, guide James led us on the trek across Lake McArthur and up onto the Biddle Glacier. We had some fun turns on the way down despite a lack of new snow. Day 2 was a tour up to the Opabin Glacier with a visit to an ice cave before continuing up to Opabin Pass. We had to boot it up the last bit to get to the pass and unfortunately a cornice prevented us from seeing over the other side. But the view the way back we had come made up for it, as did great turns on the way down.

Unfortunately, Dale had an injury and other than skiing up and down the road, he was forced to hang out in the lodge while everyone was out touring. He really missed the skiing but conceded that there are definitely worse places to have to hang out!

Saturday night was a four course meal with wine pairings and the lodge staff did an amazing job of planning and executing the event. Bruce shared some wonderful Okanagan wines with us and Jess cooked up some imaginative and delicious dishes to accompany them.

As usual, one of the things that makes the weekend so enjoyable is the company. Joining us this time were the usual crowd of Sharon and Tony, Kathleen and Brian, Barb and Paul. Newbies to the weekend were Janet and Dan from Jaspar, Sherri and Mike from Edmonton and Teresa and Jason from Vancouver. We were happy to have James guiding us again and Alison and Bruce were perfect hosts as always.

A great weekend in the mountains!
