Newberrys Nicaragua Adventure 2015 travel blog

Hope Central - 5:45 pm

Today started out a little different than normal in that we did not go to the community first. Instead the women went on the Women's Ministry to the Ladies cancer center, the men went to the community to start working on the houses and I went with Dr. Melba up to the mountains.

.

The church is hard to describe, it is located up in the mountains above Managua, down a minor road - which was paved. The church itself sits on a tiny lot, is made of concrete with open spaces for doors/windows and a dirt floor which the pastor sprinkled with water periodically to keep the dust down. A total of 47 people were seen, mostly by Dr. Melba, however I did see a couple of people with severe thyroid problems as well as diabetic ulcers on a foot.

.

Melody and Charlie had a good day in the Womens Cancer unit, they were a visible representation of how we should be looking to God for guidance and protection. Melody was very happy with the day. Charlie came home, absolutely exhausted and panting. He is currently in the house with the air conditioner on cooling down.

.

The biggest disappointment of the day is that Will was denied onward travel from Mexico City due to his passport was valid only 5 more months, not the six that was required. While I found out that they did not get off the plane in Managua while I was in the mountains I did not find out what happened until I returned to the base and checked my email.

.

Needless to say there is great disappointment all around, however we accept the fact that nothing happens without a reason, we just might not know the reason at the moment. I just talked with Tammy who said that Katie had called, they are in Las Vegas where Travis is staying until the end of the month. So, all is not lost.

.

Melody and I are awaiting tomorrow. She and Charlie will be going to an orphanage for special needs kids and I have no idea what Dr. Melba has in store. At the moment we have one team member that might have a minor episode of heat exhaustion that I'm watching. I have the IV set up in the clinic in case it's needed.
