I don’t know where today has gone. We arrived last night at 8:45 pm on Delta Flight 369. The plane was almost totally full. Fortunately because of traveling with Charlie we were in row 4 seats E&F at the bulkhead. It was great – a lot more leg room and even more room for Charlie to curl up beneath the seat ahead of us. The flight was short, just over 3 hours thanks to a tailwind. I think it is kind of funny that the travel time between Atlanta and Managua is the same as the time between Anchorage and Seattle.

.

The only snag we encountered after arrival was the fact that one of the totes didn’t make it out of Atlanta. While we were filling out the claims form a very impolite young woman started complaining the gate agent about her bag not making it from Japan, even when she had checked in Atlanta. I interrupted her tirade by asking her to allow the agent to finish with me, then she could give her the full attention that she wanted.

.

We had a really good baggage handler that we seem to remember from last year collect our 3 totes and then take them to customs. They breezed through customs and from there we went to Animal Control to get Charlie’s entry paperwork done. It was so much easier to do this year than last, in part because we knew what to expect and my Spanish has improved.

.

Chuck and Freddie Sandoval met us outside, loaded up our stuff and took us “home to Project Hope base. The drive from the airport to the base had the feeling of “coming home”. I felt a gentle peace and comfort knowing that we were right where we were supposed to be.

I really don’t know where the time went this morning. I kept expecting the sun to come shinning in the bedroom window but it didn’t. I forgot the house was beneath a shade tree. By the time I got up it was a little after 1 pm. Melody and Charlie had been up for a while. I joined them and the Cooks in the commons area for coffee. A little later after some more team members arrived we had a chicken lunch. Able to say hi to Terry and Moonkie as well as many of “old” staff members – Alejandro, Eddy, Mitchell, Eduardo, Claudia. I was also able to say hello to Dr. Melba and Aida.

.

After lunch I went back to the room and rested some more. Now it’s late afternoon, cooler – it was 82 degrees – absolutely wonderful. Now, it’s just time to visit and rest.
