Guatemala and Belize 14 Jan - 24 Feb 2015 travel blog

An easy journey got us to the border and through immigration and then we were picked up by a Guatemalan driver who took us to our jungle lodge. Gorgeous Joshua was waiting there for us and i got big hugs like a long lost friend. We had a quick lunch and the introduction to Tikal. I then left everyone to spend some time at the pool where the water was surprisingly cold.

After the tour Joshua came back to reception where we met up for a beer and a long chat after which ehe left to go ato a class and I went back to have a shower and got for dinner.

It's nice to be back in Guatemala and this lovely lodge. My memories got lost and overtaken by Belize and it is so colourful here and the people are also very friendly.Got up at 8:30 - very late for

17 February

Got up at 8:30, very late for me recently and had breakfast with a few other late risers. Spent a couple of hours at the pool but it got very hot around lunchtime and I retreated to the shade of my bungalow and watched the monkeys swinging in the trees above.

Early afternoon I went to the museum where there is an interesting and very large model of the whole site, some stelae and sacrificial stones but mainly photographs of various excavations. It was all in Spanish and, although I could understand lots, there was too much to plough through.

Most of the group had done some shopping at the few handicraft stalls on the site but I saw nothing I hadn't already seen amply in Guatemala. Now back in the shade of the pool area; dinner at 7pm and a 9am start tomorrow for the coast, coral reefs, snorkelling and relaxing for the last three days of this holiday.
