Our boondocking campsite which we found while exploring

We crossed this little stream several times on this trail

Fringed Gentian

How many trout do you see?

While exploring some of the roads that take off from Rt 48 we found this very private and delightful campsite nearly a mile back in where we set up camp in a large meadow bordered by spruce, fir and quacking aspen. It was very peaceful until the next day when several ATV's came back in there scouting for deer and elk since bow hunting season opens August 16th. They were nice enough people, but the ATV's were very noisy.

While in the area we decided to check out Hancock Peak Trail which had a trailhead not far away. We walked thru a large meadow and crossed over this neat little stream several times where we found quite a number of brook trout that we spooked big time.

It was a nice enough trail and we were happy that we did it, but probably wouldn't do it again. The pungent aroma told us that horses and sheep were regularly in the area.
