His childhood home

Today we went to Odense the birthplace of Hans Christian Andersen.

The day didn’t start well. Firstly they had road works entering the town which changed the route into the centre. After finding a car park there was no signs to where we needed to go. We eventual found the Hans Christian Anderson Museum which tells the life and times of Hans Christian and included in the museum the sparse cottage where it is believed Anderson was born in the old poor quarter of the city. The museum was good but would have liked a bit more about the background to his fairy tales now famous throughout the world.

After visiting the museum we headed into the town centre, however again there were very few signs. We did find Andersn’s childhood home, the church and the impressive town hall. After that we gave up and went back to base.
