Back in Rotterdam and the finals start in the hockey. Nan's team have been getting better and better with each match and today they played really well. The Kiwis always step up against Australia and they are the reigning Trans Tasman champs for this age group (and quite a few others).

The final score was 3/1 with NZ scoring a late consolation goal. The Aussie girls were happy with their performance. Jenny and I were sure it was our outfits of green T shirt, yellow singlet and green and yellow somraros. This stylish outfit together with green and yellow maracas made quite a sight, let alone the sound we made.

We didn't do much in the morning. There were markets on and big sales in the plethora of shops near home, so Jenny and I wandered and shopped for some time. We met Nan for lunch is a very funky cafe, before getting ready for the big game.

Tomorrow's semi is against England at 3. It will be a very tough game, especially with Holland getting to play Russia in the other Semi - a much more one sided match on paper. The girls have the talent, its whether they can play together for 80 minutes.

I've posted various pics of Rotterdam. It is a very modern city as it was totally flattened during WW2. Its port is massive and this was the reason it was targeted by both sides. Anyway, they had the opportunity to plan and build a modern city from scratch and, boy they have done a fantastic job. Separate bike tracks running parallel to the street, trams, metro, pedestrian areas, artistic building design.... Everywhere you look is interesting!

It's now 10pm and still very light. We find we have to just go to bed at our normal bedtime regardless of the light, or it's very late when we eat and retire for the night. Hence, we have only seen Rotterdam a couple of times by night.

Time for tea and chocolate »ść
