a nice night camping out a few drops of rain as I was getting up but that was it, some breakfast then packed up my camp and headed out for Frankfort the capital of Kentucky a very nice drive through the big horse farms, lots of green grass and lots of horses. A stop at the Capital did a walk through it very nice, had a small group of school kids there but were not real nosey, then headed on up the road to Louisville and the famed Churchill Downs, wow quite a place did a couple tours one a walking tour of the front part and the second one barn & backside tour. On the day of the Kentucky Derby there will be some 150,000 people there 70,000 in seats and another 80,000 standing room only in the center of the track, all bets are cash only from a $2.00 one to one this year for $1,000,000 (on the horse that came in 9th) this was the 140th year for the race and there have been only 11 triple crown winners. lots of money won and lost here over the years. A stop at the birthplace of Abraham Lincoln and his boyhood home, had a big rain storm just before getting there. Then it is back on the roading heading to Mammoth caves stopped a a KFC picked up some chicken for dinner and on to the campground for the night, set up tent had my chicken while enjoying a ice cold beer.
