2014 Memphis Trip 2 travel blog

It must be me but it appears everywhere we go the storms roll in. Last night around 2 am the winds picked up with hard rain then at 4:30 am the hail came down. That is about enough of bad weather for me, ha.

We did leave the campground at 9:45 am after Candy made one more run to the flea market to get some lien for the new sofa/bed we picked up yesterday. Our next stop would be in Plymouth Indiana to visit some friends, Jim and Sonia Kadlic, from the Indiana Gulf Streamers club that is no more. They have sold their motorhome, now they own a home in Florida on the east coast for winter and still return to Plymouth Indiana during the summer. It was nice to visit with them and talk about some of the fun we had at the Gulfstream Rally’s over the years. We were there about an hour, then started out journey down US 31 to US 24 west to Illinois to Springfield.

The trip was going just great until we got just north of Champaign Illinois when the storm hit us again. The rain was so bad you couldn’t see plus the wind was blowing like we were in a gale. That was enough of that, so we pulled off at the next exit to sit this one out. After about 30 minutes it passed and clear skies were back so we got back on the road. After about another hour we drove into another storm but the wind was not there, just the hard rail. You know it is bad when the truckers slow down and run with their 4 way flashers on. We didn’t pull off this time, just drove slow with the traffic and after 30 minutes it cleared up again and was good the rest of the trip today.

We finally arrived at the Double J Campground in Chatham Illinois around 6 pm central time. We are just 10 south of Springfield so it will not be a bad drive into town to visit all the Abraham Lincoln sights. Got the motorhome set up and damned if it didn’t rain again. Hope it stays clear tomorrow so when we are doing the tourist thing we stay dry.
