Our last stop in the Caribbean was 225 miles from Dominica, St. Maarten. We took a really neat tour at this stop. We actually crewed the Stars and Stripes #54 sail boat in a mock America’s Cup race. In 1974 the Stars and Stripes #54 won the America’s Cup and on March 25, 2014 we crewed the winner of a wonderful fake cup race. We competed against two other racing boats, both raced in the cup for Canada. Joan’s job was winch girl. Her duty was to control the rope on one of the sail winches that tightened the main sail. Ken’s job was primary grinder. He and three other “sailors” cranked the mechanism that tightened the jib sail. Great fun was had by all.
