Our usual drive from Las Vegas, right straight up Hwy 95 to Hwy 50, takes us 2 days, as it is 445 miles. However, this day when we got to Hawthorne and it was only 2 p.m, we decided to continue. As it turned out, that was a great decision, the next day, we woke up to snow on the ground. When we left the airbase in Las Vegas the wind was blowing pretty good, about 10 to 15 mph! That combined with a mostly uphill, though slight grade for the first 100 miles brought our mpg way down to the high 9's and low 10's. YIKES ! ! ! But, the further north we drove the wind relented somewhat and the mpg picked back up to the usual 12's and 13's, Whew...

When we arrived at the Van Emmerik Guest Ranch we were greeted enthusiastically by our hosts John and Mary Jane. Our little spot of heaven was decorated with a welcome gift basket, flowers and improvements to the amenities. We set to work right away to get ourselves setup so that later, we could let the fun begin! We, for the next several weeks, have several things to do such as, medical lab appt., Dr. appt., tax acct appt., brother get together appt., family BBQ's, a huge family camp outing for 3 days planned, and more, all of which, you'll read about here, so stay tuned.
