This morning we had time to mooch around the big department stores in Bedford high street. Sasha had to buy another size on account of having bought many more rare and special items than she had room for in her current luggage range. If course none of these items are available in Australia! I tried very hard to buy something in Debenhams or Marks & Spencers, but my hearts not in it when the price is either the same or higher than our local stuff, that is also exclusively imported from China. Our hotel is on the site of a 1500's coach house and features historic walnut furniture in the lobby areas and lovely old timbers in the bar and up the staircase. Behind the hotel the old Castle is being excavated and the castle mound is next to the carpark. As we came out of the back lane we were able to see a fully excavated lime kiln. It that this had been found either within a new building, or as the building was being constructed as it had its own room, displayed within a large picture window. Quite remarkable. The museum has been revamped and reopened by HRH Prince Charles.
Off to kempston again, to meet Rachel Leo and Janet for lunch.
