|I read and studied so much about Portland over the last several months. The climate, transportation, economy, what 'keeps it weird' and so on. I must say, this city has surprised us and exceeded our expectations. We love it here. It is larger than you think but each neighborhood or district is its own community. Each with a very unique feel and vibe. I follow travel blogs to get ideas on everything from 'must do things' to housing. We are signed up on Airbnb which is a site for homeowners to rent out their rooms to travelers in their city. We found our first Airbnb place in the Mississippi District. A great 2 story older home just a few blocks from fun shops and restaurants. Heidi was our host and we had the upstairs room with everything we could need! It allows you to live in a home and feel like a local. We met up with Chad, a friend Chris knew from Minneapolis who has lived here for 13 years. I could and will spend hours just walking through the city. We have picked a favorite food 'pod' (so far!) downtown near pioneer square. There are so many carts lined up for blocks-LOVE IT!!! So far we've had dumplings from The Dump Truck (potato curry and mushroom), burrito filled with veggies, rice, beans and a delicious falafel pita from Aybla. I'm in heaven!!!
