volcano again

In the morning we were woken by the blaring horns of the chicken bus at about 5am. The horn blasting lasted through the morning as people headed off to neighbouring areas for work. There is some water shortage at the moment and my “shower” this morning consisted of a bucket of cold water and a dish to pour the water over you - rather bracing and makes for a pretty quick shower. Anna cooked us up some eggs with tomatoe and onion for breakast, along with the usual coffee that comes from a coffee pot that is always on the wood stove - a rather weak brew but still good.

After breakfast we said our goodbyes and headed to the neighboring town of Panajachel. Ringed by volcanoes and colourful villages Panajachel is a great base to explore the best of this region. Pana is a relatively modern town with paved streets, many shops and easy to explore by foot.

There was a boat ride on offer to visit some other villages, but we decided to hang around town with a couple of girls in our group. Had a walk through all the markets. They have a couple of great coffee shops in town - as good as anywhere I’ve been and with a large iced coffee costing about $2. Walked down to the “beach”, only 5-10 mins away. Had lunch at a great restaurant on the lake. Just a great relaxing day.
