Vicki’s birthday today. After breakfast we catch a boat to Livingston. It was beautiful out on the water today, and the boat stopped along the way to show us the local birdlife and breeding grounds. There are a lot of large yachts from around the world moored at various places along the river.

Livingston itself is located where the river enters the Caribbean Sea, and cannot be reached by road, so has a feeling of an island although it is actually on the mainland. We spent two or three hours at Livingston wandering around and having lunch.

A bit quicker boat ride home, and then it was just relaxing by the waters edge. If you were enthusiastic you could kayak along the river, although the current was quite strong.

After dinner, there was a birthday cake for Vicki, arranged by our tour leader. It was pretty big as 16 of us couldn’t finish it, so Vicki gave the rest to the hotel staff. Second surprise was the piñata also arranged by our tour leader - it must have been the only blonde piñata .in Central America! Anyhow Vicki made short work of it with sweets flying everywhere. These were collected and saved to give to the children of a village where we will be staying.

After that a few of played a few rounds of pool - yes this place even had a pool table (sort of)
