The view from our caravan bay over the straight between Australia and...

SUNDAY 16TH

This morning after brekky we decided to go for a drive up to Bribe Island. This island is about 50 minutes from where we are staying. We left around 9.30am. To get to Bribie you have to cross a causeway onto the island. We were all extremely surprised with the size of the island and the number of people on it. We had a drive around and found out later that the island is referred to as "RETIREMENT ISLAND" well I can tell you that some people are retiring EXTREMELY well thankyou. Large canal frontage homes with LARGE boats moored out the back. This is a very nice area. After driving around for a while we noticed a small caravan park almost on the water facing back to the mainland, so we decided that we would book a bay for Monday and Tuesday nights. We were going to head towards the Gold Coast, but have changed our mind AGAIN. Nice to be in the situation of being able to change our minds.

After about 3 hours driving around the island and doing a bit of dreaming we headed off back to the caravan park at Redcliffe. A bit of shopping done for tea on the way, just as we left the shops my nephew Brad (from Brisbane) rang and said that he was going to come up and have tea with us, so we decided that we would go out with him when he got to us. I confirmed Gordons flight home tomorrow for him on the computer, then we watched the F1 GP in the hope that the new boy from Duncraig in WA would do extremely well driving for the first time with a decent team. He did do very well by coming second but I have heard today that he has lost this place due to a technicality with the fuel.

Brad arrived just before 6pm and we had a chat, Gordon had not seen Brad for a lot of years. We then went out for tea and found a very nice little Asian restaurant on the foreshore and they did a very nice banquet meal for us, yummy> We then went back to the caravan park and a bit more of a chat with Brad until he left for home around 9.30pm.

We then all hit the sack as Gordon had his flight and we had to pack to head to Bribie Island.

Monday 17th

We started packing the van up around 7am, Steph was doing a bit of washing as well, got the van packed by 9.30 am, then we went and had brekky with Gordon at the local cafe (part of the caravan park). Finished that and said our goodbyes to Gordon then we headed to Bribie. We arrived up here just on midday, set up then it was so nice we sat and had a couple of beers watching the world go by. Our bay is water facing to the west side of the island which is on the opposite side to the open ocean so it is very calm. We can see by the number of gofers around the place that it is definitely RETIREMENT ISLAND, nearly as many gofers as cars. Most of them seem to be heading to the RSL just up the road from the park !!. We wont be doing much more today, just relaxing and letting the world go by, it is tough but them someone HAS to do it.
