Ray & Elaine's 2013 trip through Canada and the USA travel blog

Depart: Santa Fe

Arrive: Apache Junction

Campground: Lost Dutchman State Park

We tried to come south through the Petrified Forest but because they still have all the National Parks shut down (bizarre) we took another route which took us through a beautiful drive through Salt River Canyon - amazing. The road traverses a winding route through the canyon, descending close to the river at the bottom before crossing the river and then ascending back up the opposite side.

Back in the land of warm weather, palm trees and cactus.

From the Lost Dutchman you can see and hike the legendary Superstition Mountains. There is also lots of information about the tales and the mystery of the Lost Dutchman Gold Mine.

Oct. 16

Visited some old spots we used to see when we would come down to visit Ray's Dad when he spent his winters down here.
