As we awoke this morning to gaze out over the Smokey Mountains enveloped in the light fog and clouds it was a majestic sight to see, oh what beauty to see here in our country, the great United States. As we watched the clouds and fog slowly lift from the mountains, they appeared to be growing as they came into view and with the sun starting to shine thru, the mountains just glowed. We are blessed to be able to have such an experience. We can understand why someone would fall in love with the Smokey Mountains.

We started the task of breaking camp to make our journey to Kernersville NC to visit Roger’s son Bruce and his wife Janet. We only had about a 4 hour drive to their home so it wasn’t a rush to get ready to leave but we were on the road by 9:30 am. We got on I-40, which was next to the campground, and started east. As we traversed the mountains and valleys with the view of the forest along the way, it was breath taking to see all of this. We started out at 2400 feet above sea level at the campground for the gradual sloop to Kernersville which is 450 feet above sea level, to view the changes in the scenery, this is something everyone should experience in their lifetime. A person just wants to sing, we are high on a hill in the sound of music.

We got to Kernersville about 1:30 pm and parked at Bruce’s. Bruce and Janet was very happy to see Roger and Marsha again this year, we were here in the spring. This is only the second time Marsha has been here because it would be very difficult for her to travel here in a car. Bruce then showed us all the improvements he has done since we were last here. American Pickers would love to stop here with all the old signs he has on the outside of his workshop, as you see in the pictures. Last time we were here he built the huge bird house that resembles a southern mansion, now he is building another that is a train station that is 3 ft square and 3 foot tall, he is an amazing person with the attention to detail he puts into his work.

Bruce fixed everyone Ruben sandwiches, which were very good, and then we had a huge bond fire. We sat around talking, drinking beer and eating snacks, what a life, I am looking forward to this next year.
