As part of our ticket to go up the Zugspitze we paid an extra 9 Euros each so we could go on another day up the majestic Alpspitze pyramid mountain. at 2,628m. Our ticket allowed us to go up the Alpspitzbahn use the Hochalm between two peaks and then down on the Kreuzeckbahn. The weather looked good despite a few clouds.
Our first cable car was an interesting ride. The first part was like many others until after travelling a third of the way the cable car flew high above a stunning rock valley with all round views of the surrounding mountains before climbing to the top station. This alone was worth the ride.
While having a coffee break we watched a regular stream of dual paragliders taking off and then circling the mountain on the thermals. Rather them than us though it must be wonderful to fly over the mountains.
Another feature at the top was the Alpspix Platform jutting out 1,000 metres above abyss. It was spectacular looking down the rugged Hollental gorge and across the rugged mountains surrounding the Alpspitze and the Zugspitze.
From the top we decided rather than take the Hochalm we would walk down to the Kreuzeckbahn. What a good decision. The trail was called the Pleasure Adventure trail and wandered through stunning mountain scenery giving views of sheer rock faces and deep mountain valleys. We watched a number of the more adventurous rock climbing the steep rock faces, stopping to pause on narrow ledges. There were also places to pause and enjoy the views. Of course our mountain dog, Daisy, enjoyed every aspect of the walk.
We finally after a really excellent walk arrived at the Kreuzeckbahn which quickly took us back down to our car.
