going under water

Got up bright and early to head to the American River near Coloma, California to go whitewater rafting. We took Whitewater Excitement as our tour guides and had Chris and Mike as guides. We had to shuttle in two groups because our little car doesn't fit everyone, so the first group set out at 630 am to arrive at the meet area. When we were all together we got our safety tour and speech (basically.....don't fall in the water) and off we went. We learned how to go forward, turn and back paddle....oh and stop paddling---that's an easy one.

We were near Sutter's Mill, the site of the first gold strike and what would eventually set off the California gold rush. It is located just off Hwy 49 (named for the 49's the gold miners that flocked to the area in 1849.

We learned very quickly that the water was very cold!! We started out with the "meatgrinder" rapids and down the river we went. We all had a blast and everyone got wet. Heather, Jared and Ethan all went into the water for a dip, somehow Shea didn't go in.

Got done and had a buffet lunch at the end of the ride and then shuttled everyone home, picked up Ajax at his puppy prison and then LeeAnn, Ethan, Shea and Jared headed out for a drive to Lake Tahoe. Heather and I discovered unwelcome guests in the pantry.....ANTS!! so instead of relaxing, we de-anted the RV. Hate those little buggers, but they do seem to find us on every trip!!!
