The next few weeks decisions were dictated by the football tournament over here, the Copa America which by good luck is been held in Peru. I got tickets for the Brazil v Chile game in Arequipa and tickets for a Semi and the Final both in Lima 2 weeks later, so this meant I could do the popular southwest loop route between Cusco and Lima which everyone does, taking in Arequipa, Nasca, and Ica.

I travelled down to Arequipa with 2 of the lads from Cusco, Matt & Graham and with a couple of days to kill before the match we done a few days trekking around the Colca Canyon (photos 2-7). After a few weeks of lazying this was a wake up call for us and we struggled, although then again the Colca Canyon is some of the deepest Canyons in the world and we decided to climb the bottom and back up again so it was never going to be easy. For the climb back up we had to start at 3am on the 2nd day (to hard to do in daytime temperatures) (photo 5), which was not funny. It was all worth it though when we got to the Condors view point and saw them flying around, (photos 6&7) spectacular sight.

So back in Arequipa next day for the footy, we meet up with another couple of people from Cusco and I was well looking forward to seeing Brazil. Loads of Chile fans packed the main Plaza and made a bit of noise (photo 9), but there was a lack of Brazil fans which was a shame. The ticket was a double header so we saw Paraguay v Costa Rica first (photo 10), but it was quite possible the most dire game I have ever seen (and I have seen a lot down the Palace!). Paraguay won with a last min penalty, so surly Brazil would be better? Well it was better but only just, Brazil edging it with another last min goal. Chile were unlucky and took the game to them but didn't take their chances (photo 13).

After one last weekend together the Cusco crowd all went our own ways, and I headed to Nasca.
