Hello Wales

Our pub for the night

Mumbles by the sea

Today we headed for Wales. Apart from a little fog, the weather was clear and warm (balmy 8 degrees). We've decided to head to the southern coastal area of Wales, somewhere around the Cardiff area. Whilst driving, Julie is doing a search on the net for somewhere to stay. The place we decided on is in a small town/village called Porthcawl, between Cardiff and Swansea ( The hotel is called the Rose and Crown, an old pub which serves beer straight from the cellar and offers traditional welsh pub food.

A quick lunch and we drove into Swansea for a look - not such a good idea. Swansea aint a pretty place. Just a large urban/industrial sprawl. However, we see some signs pointing to a town further around the bay, a place called Mumbles - yes, Mumbles ( Its an attractive seaside town, with a number of cafes, craft shops and historic sights. Well worth the drive.

Back at the hotel at the end of the day, we settled in with a couple of drinks before dinner - Julie had a local dish of tagliatelle with cockles and bacon in a creamy sauce, while i had a traditional welsh cawl dish, a bit like an Irish stew, accompanied by a selection of local cheeses and breads. Both were quite delicious.

Tomorrow we'll head off further north into Wales for a bit of exploring before heading back into England up near Manchester.
