Elqui Valley

Drove up Elqui Valley to Vicunia and Gabriella Mistral's village. Incredible valley contrasting dry cactus covered mountains with green agricultural land, growing grape vines and avocados on extremely steep slopes. Visited Pisco Distillery ....enjoyed tastings then lunch in quaint restaurant on hillside. Very warm day in the valley. Walk4ed around numerous villages.

Relaxed back at Hotel with excellent dinner and sorted photos. The end is nigh!

Picked up by Raul (very personable, spoke good English and had been a resident in the USA for a few years). Went on tour to E of La Serena up Elqui Valley. Went to Puclaro Dam, Vicuña, the Capel pisco distillery (leaving with 5 bottles of Alto del Carmen and other items), a nice lunch at a simple resto at Valle Seca, Gabriela Mistral’s home town of Montegrande and further up the valley, the village of Pisco Elqui. Grand scenery and interesting in that most of the valley bottoms were covered in grapes or avocados (some on very steep locations), with the mountainsides being essentially barren. Returned to La Serena pm and had dinner at Costa Real.
