March 3 - Hastings and area

Today was another R and R day. We started the morning with a trip to the Hastings Farmers Market. It is held on Sunday mornings at the Hastings fairgrounds. It's a pretty big market, mostly fruit, vegetable and sausage vendors with a few jam and other preserve vendors thrown in. It was another beautiful day so it was great to just wander there for an hour or so. After that we headed to Waiarama Beach. It is south of Hastings on the coast. After about 45 minutes of winding narrow roads with heaps of switch backs, we made it there. Our group had been invited to a BBQ at the beach house of one of the local Habitat Councillors.

We were there for several hours and enjoyed a great meal of chicken, sausage and steak with a multitude of salads. Followed by home made pavlova and other sweets. After lunch, Chris, Chris Hayman, Harry ( a Habitat Councillor from here) the two boys in the family we are building for (Wayde and Adam) and I went playing in the surf off the beach. It was quite windy so the waves were rolling in quite high and often. The beach was beautiful, the ocean warm and the waves fun. Apparently, there was nothing but ocean between us and South America.

This evening, Bev and Neil went to visit friends in Hastings for dinner so the rest of us, including Shirley and Alec walked down the street to the Coffee Club for dinner. They have quite an extensive affordable menu and the food was very good. After walking back, Chris and Laurie Hayman and Chris and I played Farkel in Bev and Neil's room till they returned and joined us in a game.

We are off to site a bit early tomorrow so I'd better get to sleep. All in all a fun relaxing day. Back to work on the house tomorrow.

Good night. I'll add pictures to this tomorrow.
